Cause of tooth inflammation

In 80% of cases, progressive caries is the cause of inflammation of the dental nerve. The result is severe pain or even swelling of the cheek or abscess. In very severe and acute cases, nausea and fever can occur, which can lead to a real emergency. In acute cases, high doses of painkillers or antibiotics are indicated.

Bacteria in the root canal play a decisive role in any inflammation of the dental nerve. These can multiply unhindered due to the dead tooth nerve and cannot be removed from the body due to the missing immune cells in the tooth. If the tooth nerve is completely dead, the pain can disappear, but the problem remains and the inflammation becomes chronic. If you do not have this examined, the chronic inflammation will eventually be seen as randomly occurring in the x-ray.

At this late stage, you have already lost bone at the root apex due to the chronic inflammation. The same may happen if the tooth has been inadequately cleaned during treatment. Furthermore, the root canal can also reinfect itself by a gap in a filling or crown (leakage).

Can the tooth be preserved?

We know from extensive anatomical and histological studies that the root canal is highly complex. It is, therefore, a particular challenge to remove the bacteria from the root canal, especially if the infection has existed for a long time. It requires a high level of knowledge and experience, technical and material equipment to clean and seal this complex system. We meet this challenge and thus fulfill the national and international standards of the endodontic societies (ESE, AAE, DGZ).

The infected root canal is disinfected with a scientifically approved protocol. The treatment is carried out minimally invasively with the help of the operating microscope or micro-endoscope. A rubber blanket (rubber dam) prevents contact with the dental materials and contamination of the root canal with saliva. Laser-assisted cleaning (sweeps-laser-cavitation) allows the disinfectant solution to enter even the finest anatomical structures. Activating the solution with ultrasonics increases the disinfection potential as well. Mechanical cleaning is carried out three-dimensionally with special, highly flexible files (XP shaper, self-adjusting-file). Unique in our practice is the final disinfection with "cold atmospheric plasma". The permanent sealing of the root canals is achieved with a biocompatible calcium silicate cement (MTA), which seals the root canal particularly tightly and antimicrobially. We completely avoid materials containing metal or formaldehyde!

Problem solving at the root

This method of cleaning and disinfection significantly reduces the number of bacteria. At the same time, it reduces the risk of complications and side effects. Through the use of durable and biocompatible materials, we want to improve the prognosis of the tooth and maintain your health.
